Arad County is situated in the western side of the country, and it's the southern gate of Transylvania.
This place was the crossing point of the military and commercial roads, and there was a medieval salt store.
The charters mention the settlement as county town at the beginning of the XI. century as Orod (Urod).
Between 1699-1741 the town and its environs was the headquarter of the Serbian border-guards.
At the end of the Hungarian War of Independence Arad was the place where the thirteen generals were executed at 6 October 1849.
